Top 3 Rules When Applying Makeup

I've spent the last 15 years applying makeup to myself, family members, friends, and clients. Over the years, I've learned a thing or two about how to get beautifully applied makeup. Here are my top three rules:

1. The first rule of Makeup Application: There are NO rules when applying makeup.

Labels mean close to nothing in terms of how makeup can be applied. If you want to use a lip gloss on your cheeks or eyes, try it. If you can't find the right brushes, use your (clean) fingers. Don't be afraid to make your own rules.

2. Pretty Makeup takes practice.

Remember that old mantra: If at first, you don't succeed, try, try, try again? It was a favorite in my childhood household because applies to just about every aspect of life--even putting on makeup. If you want to nail that perfect cat-eye, do it again and again.

3. Have fun with it.

Makeup is meant to played with. It's not supposed to be serious or intimidating--although I know it can feel that way sometimes. I used to look through fashion magazines and try to emulate the most outrageous looks--for fun. You don't have to do that, of course, but just play around with colors, styles, and products. When you have a lazy morning (or afternoon or evening) at home, take out a mirror and some good lighting and just play with your makeup.

Makeup is all about trial and error but don't let that get you down. Keep playing around. You'll become a pro in good time. And if you need a little help along the way, I'm here for you, Girl. Gimme a call.
