Skincare: Beneficial Ingredients

In last week's post, I talked about what ingredients to avoid when choosing skincare. Many of my readers (hi!) were surprised, as was I, to see commonly used natural ingredients like witch hazel on that list. Here's the thing: Some natural ingredients can have both beneficial and harmful properties. Here's a list of natural ingredients with only beneficial properties:

Skincare: Harmful Ingredients

I've always had pretty sensitive, reactive skin. I was that kid who broke out into a rash when their mom tested out a new laundry detergent. Interestingly enough, I also never really paid much attention to the ingredients in my skincare, because I tried to use "gentle" and "sensitive" products from well-known, trusted companies. But my red, irritated skin prevailed. In the past year, I've done some research for myself about the ingredients that I'm putting on my face--not for fear of cancer (which I know will be my next phase of getting "clean")--but just to calm my skin. With the huge organic and all-natural lifestyle becoming more and more popular, I wondered what companies or products I could trust so I could just buy everything from that company and be done researching.

SW Basics Review

With the change of the weather, I've noticed my skin was feeling a bit dry. I knew I needed to winterize my skincare, so I went to my fail-safe Beautypedia. I read Adina Grigore's book Skin Cleanse while I was pregnant with my youngest son two years ago (already?!)--it's a great read--but hadn't tried her skincare line, mainly because I'm a bit afraid of oil products. I've nearly finished with just about each item in the sample pack and definitely have an opinion about each item. Without further ado, here's my full review of SW Basics Bestseller Mini Kit:

Tips for Good Skin

I didn't always see the importance of a skincare routine (long days at the office with my head resting in my hands; hours spent studying mindlessly picking at stress-induced pimples; late nights falling asleep in my sweaty makeup). It all took a toll. My skin was, as a facialist once told me, "really angry with me." Tired of having to cover up blemishes and scarring, I decided to start taking care of my skin. I don't have perfect skin now, but I'm not afraid to leave the house without an ounce of makeup and that's huge for me. And when I do wear makeup, it looks better because I'm not caking it all on to cover my skin issues.
