Why do I need a makeup artist?

I always say makeup is like the cake topper on top of a cake. It completes the look.

Most of my clients don’t wear a lot of makeup (many wear none) on a daily basis. They also don’t wear a wedding gown or have their hair in an up-do or nails painted. On your wedding day, you’re going to want to feel like your face matches the rest of the wedding.

This is a luxury service meant to pamper and help you feel calm on a big day in your life. We’ll make sure you look great in photos and real life and your makeup stays put from the very first look until the last dance.

Maybe you’d rather do your own makeup on your wedding day but aren’t sure where to start—let’s book you a lesson so you feel confident doing it yourself!

What is your makeup style?

My style in makeup comes from my long-held motto: “We’re all meant to shine.” As a former social worker, I truly believe that our quirks make us unique and beautiful. I've seen personally how makeup can change both how we look, but also how we feel. After all, beauty shines from the inside out.

I specialize in natural makeup applications (that "you but better" look) using clean, non-toxic products. My clients often use radiant, glowy, natural, understated, and polished to describe the looks they want. When my clients look in the mirror after their application, they’re happily surprised that they recognize the person looking back, exclaiming: “I still look like me!”

I have sensitive skin. What kind of products do you use?

Almost every one of my clients is concerned about negative reactions from makeup. This is part of the reason why I only use clean, non-toxic products and latex-free lash glue. You can trust that all products I use are high-performing and luxurious while being non-toxic and safe for you. Please let me know ahead of your appointment if you have specific allergies.

What is the booking process?

Contact me with as many details involving your event as possible. I recommend contacting as soon as you know you’ll need an application for a specific date. For weddings, 6-12 months ahead of the date is standard. While non-wedding bookings, can usually accommodate a shorter lead time.

Once the date of service, time frame, and price are confirmed, I require a signed contract. For weddings, I also require a deposit to secure your date. Your date is not reserved until I receive both the signed contract and deposit.

If you’re booking your wedding makeup a year before your wedding, I realize you may not have an exact number of additional applications or timing. In those cases, we can work with an estimate. Please note, minimums will apply during peak season.

For pre-wedding consultations and trials, we recommend that you book your appointment to occur 4-6 months before your wedding—before your pre-wedding events kickoff and your life gets hectic with last minute wedding planning details.

What are your rates?

I prefer to provide personalized quotes because, girl, you are not like anyone else. We have a pricing structure that we’re happy to share with you once we chat a bit more about your individual needs—just contact me with as much information about your needs as you can.

What type of travel is involved? Will you come to me or do I travel to you?

We will travel to you on your wedding day and in specific cases when half- or full-day rates apply. Most other appointments—including makeup applications, lessons, and pre-wedding consultations & trials— take place at my home studio in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Weekday and weekend times are available.

For weddings, how do I prepare for the pre-wedding trial?

I will email you with the following trial instructions:

  • Please wear your normal daily amount of makeup so I know exactly what you mean when you say, “I want to look like ME.”

  • Wear a white/cream v-neck, white/cream button down, or white/cream tank top. This is optimal for your pre-wedding day trial if you plan to wear a white dress for the wedding.

  • Please bring photos of everything! Makeup and hair inspiration, your wedding attire, your bridal party’s wedding outfits, planned décor, flowers, colors, etc. This helps me visualize the overall style for your wedding look.

For weddings, what happens during the pre-wedding trial?

Please allow 90 minutes for your consultation and trial. During the allotted time, we discuss your wedding style details and your ideas and images your wedding day makeup and hair. Based on our discussion, I do a full makeup application including skin prep and complimentary lashes. We then go over the finished look, tweaking the makeup if needed. After we finalize the look for makeup and hair, we review and finalize the wedding day timeline and confirm whether any additional artists are needed to assist for your wedding day.

What if I have a large bridal party?

That’s never a problem and nothing for you to worry about, Miss Popular ;) I have a network of very talented makeup artists who I will bring on as needed. We’ll work out how many additional artists you need during your consultation and trial.

Do you recommend doing a pre-wedding trial on the same day as pre-wedding special occasions (such as engagement photoshoot or bridal shower)?

We always suggest doing your trial on a separate day when you can dedicate around 1.5hrs to our consultation and full makeup application. When clients are feeling rushed or focused on what’s happening after our trial, we’ve found, they’re distracted and can't devote their full attention in engaging to pick their wedding day beauty look. During your trial, we want you to have a great time relaxing and getting exactly the look you want for your BIG day.

What should I expect on the day of the special event or wedding?

Expect to be pampered and feel fabulous! We will have discussed logistics in detail during the initial consult and/or pre-wedding trial. If we are on location, I always build in sufficient time to get set up (and cushion our timeline so we won’t feel rushed).

What do I need to prepare for you on the day of the event?

When your skin and lips are exfoliated and moisturized, it’s ready for makeup. We’ll chat more about your personal skin needs before your appointment.

If I’m traveling to your location, please be sure to designate an area with a table and high stool for me that has the best natural light, near a window.

Do you do hair or know anyone who does?

Let’s just say that my husband probably could do an up-do better than me (he cuts our kids’ hair!). But lucky for you, I do have a list of local hair stylists and am very happy to help you coordinate if you need that service.

That all sounds good! I’m ready to book my appointment!

Great! Contact me with all relevant details for a quote. I can’t wait to work with you!

Wait, I have more questions!

I love chatting about makeup! Please contact me with any additional questions. I’m here for YOU!
